Why it matters for India

IAF operates approximately 100+ An-32s delivered from 1984 onwards. Principal tactical transport workhorse. Mid-life upgrade of 40 aircraft to An-32 RE standard performed jointly by UkrOboronProm and IAF No. 1 BRD Kanpur (2009–2018). Subsequent fleet upgrade of 50+ aircraft by IAF BRDs using Indian-supplied upgrade kits. Spare-parts supply disrupted post-2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Indian production status

No airframe manufacturing. Depot-level MRO and upgrade kits manufacturing at No. 1 BRD Kanpur. Atlas records the upgrade-kit manufacturing as L2 (component manufacturing) under Ukrainian design / IP.
