India’s 16 defence PSUs are being pushed from production houses into surge-capacity platforms

India’s defence-industrial challenge is no longer just whether it can manufacture more. After recording approximately ₹1.8 lakh crore in defence production in FY2025–26, the government is now pressing its 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings to deliver faster, reduce imported content, convert R&D into deployable technology and maintain production through prolonged conflict.
