Larsen & Toubro announced on Thursday, 13 August 2026, that its AI infrastructure subsidiary LTN Compute — part of the Vyoma.AI business — has secured an order worth Rs 10,000 to 15,000 crore (approximately $1.05 to 1.57 billion) from US-based AI cloud platform Together AI. The order involves deploying 10,000 NVIDIA B300 GPUs at L&T's Chennai data centre campus to build India's largest single-cluster AI Factory. The AI Factory will power Together AI's AI-native cloud platform for large-scale inference, fine-tuning and training workloads. Phase 1 of the Chennai campus is designed for 250 MW of compute capacity with power infrastructure readiness of 150 MVA, and the overall site is gigawatt-scale, providing a foundation for future expansion.

This matters strategically because it marks L&T's formal entry into the AI Factory business — a segment where hyperscale compute infrastructure is becoming a foundational industrial asset, akin to power generation or telecommunications networks. NVIDIA's B300 ranks among the most powerful chips available for AI inference tasks, and a 10,000-GPU cluster represents the largest such deployment in India. The order positions India as a credible location for global AI infrastructure investment, extending beyond the existing IndiaAI Mission compute deployments to serve international AI innovators.

The dependency frame is twofold. First, the hardware remains entirely dependent on NVIDIA's GPU supply chain — the B300 is sourced from TSMC's fabrication ecosystem, meaning India's AI infrastructure build-out is anchored to the same semiconductor dependency that affects the global industry. Second, the power infrastructure requirement (250 MW Phase 1, gigawatt-scale campus) places enormous demand on Tamil Nadu's electricity grid and underscores the criticality of power availability as a constraint on AI infrastructure scaling. The test to watch is whether L&T can secure the necessary power allocation and whether subsequent orders follow from other global AI players seeking capacity in India.

The opportunity for the Indian ecosystem is in the supporting value chain: data centre construction, power equipment, cooling systems, network infrastructure, and AI infrastructure operations. Watch for the timeline to Phase 1 commissioning and whether the Chennai campus attracts additional AI workload customers beyond Together AI.
