Survey of India Orders ideaForge Q6 V2 UAVs: An Indigenous Drone Enters the State's Mapping Workflow
- Survey of India has ordered ideaForge Q6 V2 UAVs for surveying, mapping and geospatial data collection, per ideaForge's 13 October announcement.
- Order value, quantity and order date were not disclosed.
- Specifications such as 60 minutes endurance, 5 km range and 6 kg take-off weight are company-reported; ideaForge's own product page lists 50-55 minutes for mapping configurations.
- It is a civilian government adoption signal, not a defence order or proof of component independence.
- The test is repeat orders, delivery performance and how much of the stack is domestically sourced.

The order
On 13 October ideaForge Technology announced that Survey of India, the national mapping agency, has placed orders for its Q6 V2 unmanned aerial vehicles. The drones are to be used for surveying, mapping and collecting aerial and geospatial data across varied terrain.
Neither the order value nor the quantity has been disclosed, and the reports do not say when the order was placed. The coverage we found (India Strategic and The Manufacturing Frontier) follows the company's announcement, so the platform claims below are ideaForge's own and have not been independently verified.
What the company says about the platform
- Type: a lightweight, VTOL-capable, survey-grade quadcopter described as designed and developed entirely in India.
- Performance: 60 minutes of endurance, a 5 km operational range, a 6 kg maximum take-off weight and deployment in under 10 minutes.
- Payloads: daylight, thermal, mapping and multispectral options, with autonomous navigation and encrypted communications.
- Field record: the company says the platform has been used in high-altitude zones and flood-affected areas.
One discrepancy is worth noting. ideaForge's own Q6 V2 GEO mapping page lists up to 55 minutes of endurance for its photogrammetry configurations and 50 minutes for LiDAR, so the 60-minute figure appears to describe a particular configuration rather than every mapping setup. That page does not carry the 'designed in India' wording.
Why a civilian government order matters
Indian drone makers are usually judged on defence trials and procurement bids. A mapping agency is a different customer: it needs repeatable missions, usable data, maintenance support and institutional procurement. A working deployment can become a reference for state agencies, infrastructure firms and mining users.
The Techadyant view
This is a modest but useful signal. It shows a domestically designed platform entering a government data-collection workflow outside defence. It does not show scale, and it does not show component independence: flight controllers, sensors, radios, batteries and software can still be imported even when the airframe is Indian-designed. The Army FPV-drone order in S-146 sits at the other end of the market; this one tests the civilian production-and-use layer.
What to watch next
Watch for the order quantity and value, delivery and acceptance milestones, repeat orders from other central or state agencies, and any disclosure of how much of the flight and payload stack is sourced domestically.
